"Personal Jesus" is Depeche Mode's twenty-third UK single, released on August 29, 1989, and the first single from the then upcoming album Violator. It was written by Martin L. Gore. Since then, the title song has been covered by numerous artists. Inspired by the book Elvis and Me by Priscilla Presley, it was the first hit from the album, reaching #13 on the UK Singles Chart. It was also included in Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas on the fictional radio station Radio X.
