GUM aka. Jay Watson is a member of 'Tame Impala' and 'Pond'. He has released five solo album as 'GUM' + 'Saturnia' out September 15 2023. This single and 'Race To The Air' are tracks from that album.Watson had this to say about the song in a press release: “‘Race to the Air’ was originally called ‘Running to The Cure.’ I have this memory of going to the toilet at Glastonbury and The Cure started their set by playing ‘Plainsong,’ which is my favorite Cure song, so I was running from the portaloo to the stage. I couldn’t call a song ‘Race to The Cure’ after COVID though, I didn’t want people to think I was making an album about the pandemic!” - source, Mark Redfern, Under The Radar May 24 2023.
Lyrics:
[Verse 1] We live in un-imaginary times All of the lights are on One day at a time One trip 'round the sun You'll never know if you were done Till you're gone [Verse 2] Welcome to service It's like I only just ate Why am I nervous? Doing this since two-thousand-and-eight [Verse 3] We live in unimaginable lives All of the rights, all of the wrongs One day at a time One trip 'round the sun It's just another smoking gun All of the lies [Chorus] Would it pain you to suffer now? Would it pain you to see? What's there left to discover now in me? [Chorus/Outro] Would it dare you to suffer now? Would it pain you to see? What's there left to discover now? (Almost did) Would it take you to suffer now? Would it pain you to see? What's there left to discover now? (Almost did) Would it dare you to suffer now? Would it pain you to see? What's there left to discover now? (Almost did) Would it take you to suffer now? Would it pain you to see? What's there left to discover now?
