“Stuck with You” is a hit single by Huey Lewis and the News, written by guitarist Chris Hayes and lead singer Huey Lewis, released in 1986. It was the first single from the band’s fourth album, Fore!. The song spent three weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 from September 14 to October 3, 1986. The single was the band’s second number-one hit on the Hot 100 chart, following “The Power of Love” in 1985. The song reached number 12 on the UK Singles Chart. This song also spent 3 weeks at #1 on the Adult Contemporary chart. Huey Lewis and the News is a pop rock band from San Francisco who had a series of hit singles in the 1980s and early 90s. They’re best known for their “instantly memorable hooks, driven home with economical precision by a tight bar band,” [1] especially in their back-to-back multiplatinum albums Sports (1983) and Fore (1986). Their song “Hip to be Square,” on Fore!, was made famous in a scene in American Psycho, in which Pat Bateman says, In ‘87, Huey released Fore!, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is “Hip to Be Square,” a song so catchy most people probably don’t listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it’s not just about the pleasures of conformity, and the importance of trends, it’s also a personal statement about the band itself. The band got its start when singer and harmonica player Huey Lewis and keyboardist Sean Hopper hooked up with a Bay Area jazz-funk band called Clover. After Fore! the band declined in stature, and the lineup changed substantially. They recorded the theme song to the 2008 movie Pineapple Express.

Stuck with You Lyrics Huey Lewis and The News [Verse 1] We've had some fun Yes, we've had our ups and downs Been down that rocky road But here we are still around We thought about someone else But neither one took the bait We thought about breaking up Now we know it's much too late [Pre-Chorus 1] We are bound by all the rest Like the same phone number All the same friends And the same address [Chorus 1] (Ooh) Yes, it's true (yes it's true) I am happy to be stuck with you (Ooh) Yes, it's true (yes it's true) I'm so happy to be stuck with you (Ooh) 'Cause I can see (I can see) That you're happy to be stuck with me [Short organ interlude] [Verse 2] (ooh, wa-ooh) We've had our doubts We never took them seriously (ooh, wa-ooh) And we've had our ins and outs But that's the way it's s'posed to be We thought about giving up (giving up) But we could never stay away We thought about breaking up (ooh, wa ooh) But now we know it's much too late [Pre-Chorus 2] And it's no great mystery (Ooh) If we change our minds Eventually It's back to you and me [Chorus 2] (Ooh) Yes, it's true (yes, it's true) I am happy to be stuck with you (Ooh) Yes, it's true (yes, it's true) I'm so happy to be stuck with you (Ooh) 'Cause I can see (I can see) That you're happy to be stuck with me [Organ solo: Sean Hopper] [Pre-Chorus 3] We are bound by all the rest Like the same phone number All the same friends And the same address [Chorus 3] (Ooh) Yes, it's true (yes it's true) I am happy to be stuck with you (Ooh) Yes, it's true (yes it's true) I'm so happy to be stuck with you (Ooh) 'cause I can see (I can see) That you're happy to be stuck with me [Chorus repeats] (Ooh, yes, it's true) I'm so happy to be stuck with you (Ooh, wa-ooh) I'm happy to be stuck with you (Ooh, wa-ooh) Happy to be stuck with you (Ooh, yes, it's true) Produced By Huey Lewis & The News Written By Huey Lewis & Chris Hayes Release Date August 20, 1986
