"Barbie Dreams" is a song by American rapper Nicki Minaj, with additional writing credits from Melvin Hough II, Rivelino Wouter, Rashad Smith. Produced by Smith alongside Mel & Mus, the song is based on a sampled beat and similar themes from The Notorious B.I.G.'s song "Just Playing (Dreams)". The song serves as the third track on Minaj's fourth studio album, Queen (2018). When Queen dropped on August 10, 2018, "Barbie Dreams" was an immediate standout among fans and listeners in general. The track plays off of B.I.G.'s song (which mentions various female R&B singers he desires to have intercourse with) by name-dropping many of Minaj's male collaborators and 'roasting' them. The track was thought to be a diss towards all of the men in the song (including "brother-figure", Drake), but Nicki quickly denied these rumors and insisted that these roasts were all in good fun, and that she only mentioned people she knew would not take them hurtfully, with the Tweet: "I only mentioned people in #BarbieDreams th[at I] fuk wit. This isn’t a diss. Yikes. This is culture, this is BIGGIE!!!!! New York!!!! This is FUN. Lig[ht] hearted fun FUN ." Due to the song's popularity and public interest, "Barbie Dreams" was sent to rhythmic contemporary radio on August 14, 2018, becoming the third single from Queen.
