Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark began as a synth-pop duo in Merseyside, England. Paul Humphreys and Andy McCluskey played together in The Id before joining forces as Orchestral Manoeuvres. This was featured in the final scene of the John Hughes-directed movie Pretty In Pink, and OMD wrote it specifically for the film. Check out the If You Leave Songfacts, for an interview with Andy McCluskey of OMD about the song. “If You Leave” is a song by British synthpop group Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark. The track was commissioned by John Hughes to be used in the final scene of his 1986 film Pretty in Pink. The track reached international success, managing to enter music charts around the world. Lyrics:
If You Leave Lyrics Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark [Verse 1] If you leave, don't leave now Please don't take my heart away Promise me, just one more night Then we'll go our separate ways We've always had time on our side Now it's fading fast Every second, every moment We've gotta make it last [Chorus] I touch you once, I touch you twice I won't let go at any price I need you now like I need you then You always said we'd still be friends someday [Verse 2] If you leave I won't cry I won't waste one single day But if you leave don't look back I'll be running the other way Seven years went under the bridge Like time was standing still Heaven knows what happens now You've got to, you've gotta say you will [Chorus] I'll touch you once, I'll touch you twice I won't let go at any price I need you now like I need you then You always said we'd meet again [Instrumental Bridge] [Chorus] I touch you once, I touch you twice I won't let go at any price I need you now like I need you then You always said we'd still be friends I touch you once, I touch you twice I won't let go at any price I need you now like I need you then You always said we'd meet again someday [Outro] (Huh-uh-huh, huh-uh-huh, huh-uh-huh, huh-uh-uh) If you leave (Huh-uh-huh, huh-uh-huh, huh-uh-huh, huh-uh-uh) Oh, if you leave (Huh-uh-huh, huh-uh-huh, huh-uh-huh, huh-uh-uh) Oh, if you leave (Huh-uh-huh, huh-uh-huh, huh-uh-huh, huh-uh-uh) Don't look back (Huh-uh-huh, huh-uh-huh, huh-uh-huh, huh-uh-uh) Don't look back (Huh-uh-huh, huh-uh-huh, huh-uh-huh, huh-uh-uh Huh-uh-huh, huh-uh-huh, huh-uh-huh, huh-uh-uh) Produced By Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark & Tom Lord‐Alge Written By Paul Humphreys, Martin Cooper & Andy McCluskey Roland Jupiter-8 Martin Cooper DX7 Paul Humphreys Emulator II Paul Humphreys Tenor Saxophone Martin Cooper Fairlight CMI Paul Humphreys, Andy McCluskey & Martin Cooper Lead Vocals By Andy McCluskey Release Date April 1986
