Sledgehammer

This track is similar in style to 1960s American soul music, which Gabriel was a big fan of, and even features the horn section of famed soul record label Stax Records. The track was a massive success for Gabriel, reaching #1 on the American and Canadian charts, #4 in the UK and a top 5 placing in many other countries. The success of the single was helped by a highly memorable music video which featured use of claymation and a stop motion camera. It is often considered to be a highly groundbreaking video and is regularly listed as one of the greatest music videos of all time.
