Toni Wine was one of the session musicans who performed on this track. In an interview with Songfacts she denied there is any sexual innuendo in the song. Setting the interviewer straight, she said: "'Give me some sugar' is a very old-fashioned saying. It can refer to people kissing each other, that's sugar. Dogs licking you, that's 'Gimme some sugar.' Sugar is just a form of love."
