The Last Samurai is the original soundtrack to the movie of the same name , composed by Hans Zimmer . The album was released on November 25, 2003 by Elektra Records and Warner Music Group . The music was performed by the Hollywood Studio Symphony conducted by Blake Neely . The vocals in the music are by Delores Clay and the chant by Benjamin Hale. The Japanese string instrument Koto was performed by Junu Kuramoto. For the production of the soundtrack, Zimmer went to Japan specifically to study the local folk music and culture . Additional music was composed by Trevor Morris , Blake Neely and Geoff Zanelli . Zimmer received a 2004 Golden Globe Award nomination in the category: Best Original Score - Motion Picture.
